Fresh Feet 101: Simple Foot Care Hacks for Tween and Teen Boys

Pungent foot odor – it’s practically a rite of passage with tween and teen boys. Between gym, sports, puberty, and just everyday activity, their feet can quickly turn into mini swamp factories. Honestly, foot funk has been the most requested topic from our community, so we’re answering the call! If you scored the October Good Guygiene box, consider your boy’s feet saved. But if not, don’t worry—we’ve got the ultimate foot care game plan right here. Let’s help him master fresh feet and say goodbye to those funky smells overtaking your house, car, or (heaven forbid) his classroom. Here’s how to help him literally put his best foot forward:

  1. Start with Clean Feet

This one seems like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised (or maybe you wouldn’t). The best way to stop foot odor is by keeping his feet clean. Get your son to wash his feet with soap and water daily, especially after sports or gym class. If he’s in a rush (as usual), toss him a pack of Jasmine Seven Feet Wipes. These little lifesavers are gentle enough for daily use but tough enough to battle all the funk. Keep a pack by the door for a quick wipe-down when he kicks off his shoes and socks after school and throw a pack in the car for post-practice carpool.

  1. Keep Feet Dry

Sweaty feet = stinky feet. It’s a fact. The trick is to keep them dry. Make sure he dries his feet thoroughly after showers—especially between the toes where moisture loves to hang out. A foot powder or balm like Badger Balm Foot Balm helps keep his feet dry, soft, and free from blisters and callouses. Plus, it’s a sneaky way to add some self-care without him realizing it (the Badger Foot Balm smells and feels amazing)!

  1. Shoes and Socks Matter

If he’s rocking the same old sneakers every day, those feet (and shoes) are doomed. Encourage him to rotate shoes, giving them time to dry out between wears. Shoe deodorizer inserts like Smell Well’s are game-changers for smelly shoes—they soak up sweat and leave his kicks smelling fresh. And for the love of clean air, make sure he’s always wearing socks. No socks = instant foot funk. We love the motivational messages on Notes to Self socks, because they remind him that he’s “Crushing It” (along with a ton of other message options) while protecting his precious feet. Clean socks are a must every day, more often if he plays sports.

  1. Don’t Skip the Foot Spray

Foot spray is our favorite secret weapon against the stink – Fresh Body Foot Spray is an easy, quick fix that stops foot odor before it even starts. Spraying on clean, dry feet in the morning keeps bacteria and moisture in check all day. Bonus: it smells great, so he can even spray it in his shoes for extra odor protection. Keep one in his gym bag for a post-practice refresh—it’s a game-changer.

  1. Guard Against Infections

Locker rooms = fungus central. To help him avoid athlete’s foot, warts, and toenail infections, make sure he’s always wearing shower shoes or flip-flops in the locker room. After showers, dry those feet well, and check regularly for any signs of infection (think: warts, yellow toenails, or itchy, burning skin). If anything looks funky, a quick call to the pediatrician is in order before trying any over-the-counter treatments.

  1. Add a Little Fun with No-Tie Laces

We included Xpand no-tie laces in the October box because we know how much tween and teen boys take their shoes on and off— plus, they’ve got that easy-going cool vibe boys love. They eliminate untied, dirty laces and are the perfect combo of fun and function. It’s a small upgrade that makes a big difference, and who doesn’t want that?

Helping our tween and teen boys tackle foot care doesn’t have to be an epic battle. With a simple routine, a few fun products, and some consistency, he’ll conquer this hygiene hurdle in no time.
